The course
The Ailsa Course runs along the Ayrshire coast, with the Firth of Clyde and the granite dome of Ailsa Craig framing many of its holes. It has hosted The Open four times, including the 1977 Duel in the Sun between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus. Martin Ebert's 2016 renovation reworked several seaside holes, including a new par-3 routing past the historic lighthouse.
Signature hole: The par-3 9th, Bruce's Castle, plays along the cliff edge past the white lighthouse with the Firth of Clyde below.
