The course

The Lake Course at The Olympic Club sits among thousands of cypress and eucalyptus trees on the western edge of San Francisco, with the namesake Lake Merced just beyond. Its tilted fairways, small greens, and absence of water hazards have produced a string of surprising U.S. Open finishes, where favorites have repeatedly been overtaken. The club has staged the championship in 1955, 1966, 1987, 1998, and 2012.

Signature hole: The par-4 16th is a long, sweeping dogleg that has decided the outcome of multiple U.S. Opens.
