Haverford Township, PA
A Hugh Wilson course.
The course
The West Course is the quieter companion to Merion's celebrated East, laid out by Hugh Wilson in 1914 on the rolling ground of Haverford Township. At par 70 and under 6,000 yards, it favors placement and short-game touch over length, and it remains little altered from Wilson's original routing. Members regard it as the more relaxed of the two layouts, a place to play rather than to be tested.
Signature hole: No single hole carries the renown of the East Course, but the West is prized for the natural rise and fall of its closing holes through the rolling Haverford terrain.
