Kiawah Island Ocean Course

A Pete Dye course.

The course

Built along the eastern dunes of Kiawah Island at Alice Dye's suggestion, the Ocean Course offers a clear view of the Atlantic from every hole and sits fully open to the wind off the water. Pete Dye's layout opened in 1991 as the venue for the Ryder Cup remembered as the War by the Shore, and has since hosted the PGA Championship in 2012 and 2021. It is regularly cited among the most demanding public-access courses in the United States.

Signature hole: The par-3 17th plays across a pond toward the Atlantic, fully exposed to the prevailing wind, and proved decisive at the 1991 Ryder Cup.
