Cypress Point Club

Designed by Alister MacKenzie (with Robert Hunter; original routing by Seth Raynor).

The course

Set on a small cape along California's Monterey Peninsula, Cypress Point Club moves from forested holes to dunes and finally to the Pacific cliffs. Alister MacKenzie completed the design after Seth Raynor's death, and the routing has long been studied as a model of variety and shot value. The club is private and rarely seen, which has only deepened its reputation among golfers.

Signature hole: The par-3 16th plays roughly 220 yards across an open inlet of the Pacific, with a forced carry from tee to a green set on the rocks.
